The Hybrid EMT Academy expands access to high caliber training by removing geographic barriers while preserving the structure, rigor, and professional expectations serious students deserve. Located in Northern Virginia just outside Washington, DC, CERT operates within one of the nation’s most active healthcare and emergency response regions. Many students choose to travel for this program for one reason — to receive training that prepares them for the realities of patient care. This program is intentionally designed for motivated individuals seeking flexibility without compromising educational quality.

Interactive Online Didactic Experience

Students begin with a series of live, instructor led online lectures and lab demonstrations that create a true classroom experience in a modern format. Participants engage with instructors in real time, ask questions, review complex material, and remain academically accountable throughout the process.

Online sessions operate on a continuously rotating schedule, allowing students to progress efficiently while balancing professional and personal responsibilities.

To ensure mastery and proper knowledge development, didactic coursework must be completed sequentially, and all required instruction must be finished prior to attending the Skills Residency.

This structured approach provides flexibility without sacrificing the standards required to prepare competent emergency responders.

Scheduling Your Skills Residency

At the time of registration, students select the date they intend to attend their two week in-person Skills Residency, allowing them to plan ahead and complete all academic requirements before arriving for hands-on training.

This model supports working professionals and career changers while maintaining clear expectations for preparation and performance.

The Skills Residency

Held Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Skills Residency is a focused, high engagement training experience where students complete comprehensive skills demonstrations, participate in scenario based evolutions, and are evaluated against professional benchmarks.

The program includes a minimum of 80 hours of hands-on skills training, meeting or exceeding the preparation provided by most traditional EMT pathways.

Clinical opportunities are scheduled during evenings and weekends, providing access to real patient care environments that may include ambulance operations, Emergency Department rotations, and supervised medical standby assignments.

For students traveling from outside the region, discounted housing is available through our Extended Stay partner located adjacent to our facility, reinforcing CERT as a destination for serious training.
